
(Panama City, Panama) January 13, 2010. A Cooperation Agreement to foster human development, that will promote sustainable development in Panama and the region, was signed by Rector Marcela Paredes Vasquez from the Technological University of Panama (UTP) and Emilio Sempris, Director of the Water Center for the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC), at the UTP campus.
The agreement sets up a cooperation framework between UTP and CATHALAC in order to develop internship programs, research projects, academic and postgraduate programs.
During the signing event, both UTP Rector and CATHALAC’s Director stated how pleased they were to create synergy to contribute in strengthening human capital in Panama and the region by fostering applied research and education in priority areas, for sustainable development.
This initiative to subscribe the Agreement between the UTP and CATHALAC came to be as both Parties decided on a strategy to offer to both students and academic communities, programs that would contribute in forming them regarding climate change, environmental analysis and monitoring, integrated watershed management and disaster risk management.
