Education

The national, regional and international education programs at CATHALAC are derived from our four thematic areas of work: Integrated Watershed Management; Climate Change; Environmental Modeling and Analysis; and Risk Management. The objective of these programs is to form a community of multidisciplinary professionals who are capable of responding with an integrated vision, to both the challenges and opportunities related to these emerging critical environmental issues.

We offer four categories of programs: Professional Capacity Building Program; Graduate Diplomas Program; Research & Study Abroad Program through which students can earn academic credit toward their university degree; and Internships Program through which students can conduct research, master degree thesis, or a professional practice in CATHALAC. We also work with academic and higher education institutions to create customized programs or modules of existing programs.

CATHALAC regional projects have an important component of capacity development and training which promotes exchanges between people from different countries, their world views and the different ways they each solve their environmental problems. The projects results are often published and are available in our publications list.

The Center collaborates with several academic and higher education institutions such as the University of Alabama in Huntsville, Auburn University, University of Nebraska-Lincoln, School of Earth Sciences at Stanford University, IRI of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, McGill University, Laval University, University of Gottingen, University of Maryland, Dartmouth University, IAGT at Cayuga Community College, University of Mississippi, University of South Florida, Payson Center for International Development at Tulane University Law School, University of Florida, Florida State University Panama, University of Central Florida, and several Panamanian universities such as the University of Panama, the Technological University of Panama (UTP), Universidad Latina, ULACIT.

The skills and knowledge gained in CATHALAC's education programs prepares participants for competitive professional leadership positions in a variety of public and private institutions. CATHALAC's education programs translate into success through the energy and enthusiasm that students, along with our staff, bring to their individual and community endeavors.
