Successfully concludes 4th International Course on River Ecological Flows
Panama City, July 2011 - The Water Center for the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC) successfully presented and concluded its fourth consecutive version of the International Course on River Ecological Flows Modeling at its facilities during the week of 11 to 15 July in the City of Knowledge, Clayton.
The Center promotes integrated watershed management through knowledge and technology transfer, the use of tools and acquiring practical skills in its thematic areas of work, climate change, integrated watershed management, modeling and environmental analyses, and risk management. Through specialized courses such as this, the Center focuses on different aspects in its line of work and helps to fill training gaps identified in Latin America.
The projection of this training event is of great importance to the region, thus the 21 participants representing countries from North, Central and South America: Mexico, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Colombia, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Panama. As on previous years, the participants were satisfied and their expectations fulfilled in regards to; the course content and knowledge acquired.
On this occasion, participants which were from the private sector and academia in their respective countries, may apply the skills they acquired in the process of making physical models of habitat, assess environmental impacts, identify options for ecosystem restoration and conservation of a wide view of the water requirements thereof, as well as to incorporate these considerations in the design and implementation of strategies to facilitate water resources integrated management
CATHALAC, with headquarters in the Republic of Panama, is an International Organization that since 1992 works on research applied to sustainable development; strengthens professional capacity and facilitates innovative technology transfer in the countries of the humid tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean.
