Environmental LAC-ATLAS among the Notable Government Documents 2011
Washington D.C. , Junio, 2011- The ATLAS of Our Changing Environment for Latin America and the Caribbean that was recently published in December 2010 and product of the collaboration between the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Water Center for the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC)
was selected by the U.S.A. Library Journal as one thirteen NOTABLE GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS 2011: International Documents.
The Library Journal highlights the online version of the ATLAS of Our Changing Environment for Latin America and the Caribbean “as Web resource that uses roughly 200 satellite images, hundreds of graphs and photos, numerous thematic maps, and statistics to assess environmental change in Latin America and the Caribbean. …provide an overview of these regions’ physical geography, climatic conditions, biodiversity, and water resources, as well as the human activities that are degrading the environment.” The Atlas is available both in English and Spanish.
The Journal’s Notable Documents Panel chose the documents for this recognition. The Library Journal boasts 133 years of existence and “it is considered the oldest and most respected publication covering the library field in the United States. It is considered to be the “bible” of the library world. Its hefty review sections evaluate nearly 7000 books annually, along with hundreds of audio books, videos, databases, web sites, and systems that libraries buy”.
