Mediante el Convenio se utilizará información geoespacial para el monitoreo ambiental
Ciudad de Guatemala, Guatemala- marzo de 2011—El Ministro del Ministerio de Ambiente y Recursos Naturales (MARN) de Guatemala, Luis Alberto Ferraté y Emilio Sempris, Director del Centro de Agua del Trópico Húmedo para América Latina y el Caribe (CATHALAC), firmaron un Convenio de Cooperación en esta ciudad, el pasado 9 de marzo de 2011, con el fin de compartir conocimientos académicos, realizar transferencia de tecnología y estudios conjuntos para el monitoreo ambiental, que se diseminarán entre las comunidades indígenas mediante un programa piloto.

Santo Domingo, 19 de Junio de 2009. Funcionarios de la Secretaría de Medio Ambiente y Recursos Naturales, la Oficina de Defensa Civil, el Servicio Nacional de Protección Ambiental, Organismos Académicos, Organizaciones No Gubernamentales y la Oficina Local de USAID se reunieron el jueves 18 y viernes 19 de los corrientes con la delegación de SERVIR, conformada por Daniel Irwin, Director del Proyecto SERVIR, basado en Huntsville, Alabama y Francisco Delgado, Gerente de Tecnologías de Información y Comunicaciones de CATHALAC, con sede en Panamá, a fin de revisar los avances en los prototipos de sistemas de información que SERVIR ha estado desarrollando para República Dominicana como una contribución a la consolidación del Sistema Nacional de Información Ambiental.
The Republic of Nicaragua signs CATHALAC's Agreement
July 13, 2010. Panama, Republic of Panama. The Nicaraguan Ambassador, His Excellency Antenor Ferrey Pernudi, on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Nicaragua, signed the intergovernmental agreement of the Water Center of the Humid Tropics for Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC, in Spanish).
UAH and CATHALAC agree to promote the transfer of knowledge and technology in LAC

Thursday, April 15th, 2010, Panama, Panama. The United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and the Water Center for the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC) signed a cooperative agreement in which CATHALAC assumes the role of Regional Support Office of UN-SPIDER for Latin America and the Caribbean.
The Republic of El Salvador subscribes to CATHALAC Agreement
April 3, 2009. Panama City, Panama. The Salvadoran Chancellor, S.E. Marisol Argueta de Barillas, on behalf of the government of El Salvador, signed the Water Center of the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC) Agreement , as an intergovernmental organization.
To date, the Agreement has been signed by the governments of Dominican Republic, Honduras, Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Panama.
CATHALAC and the Haitian Environmental Ministry define lines of work and areas for cooperation
From March 24 to 26, a meeting was held between the Director of the National Observatory for the Environment and Vulnerability (ONEV, in French) of the Haitian Environmental Ministry, Dwinel Belizaire and staff of the Water Center for the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC). The agenda followed up on subject matters approached during the visit of the Haitian Minister of the Environment Jean Marie Claude Germain who visited CATHALAC in April of 2009. During the meeting, the participants established priority areas and initiatives for action and technical cooperation. The meeting took place in CATHALAC´s offices in Panama City, Panama.
Senate of Dominican Republic Approves CATHALAC Agreement
March 20, 2009. The senate plenary of theDominican Republic approved, among other initiatives, the Constituent Agreement of theWaterCenter for the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC), signed on November 12, 2008.

UTP and CATHALAC agree to promote applied research and education
(Panama City, Panama) January 13, 2010. A Cooperation Agreement to foster human development, that will promote sustainable development in Panama and the region, was signed by Rector Marcela Paredes Vasquez from the Technological University of Panama (UTP) and Emilio Sempris, Director of the Water Center for the Humid Tropics of Latin America and the Caribbean (CATHALAC), at the UTP campus.

Del 11 al 15 de agosto, el Director de CATHALAC, Emilio Sempris, presentó en diferentes espacios de la EXPO ZARAGOZA 2008, como la Tribuna del Agua, entre otros, los avances que ha tenido este Centro desde su establecimiento en 1992, partiendo de la base que actualmente cuenta con el más moderno sistema de tecnología de la información y comunicación, como lo es la conectividad de fibra óptica dedicada de 10 Megabits por segundo (Mbps); servidores en línea y redundantes con capacidad de 20 Terabytes (TB); un moderno sistema de respaldo, protección y gestión de información; una colección de software de Sistemas de Información Geográfica (GIS) y un moderno Centro Regional de Capacitación con un Laboratorio de Cómputo equipado con veinte (20) estaciones de trabajo de alta calidad y sus respectivas licencias para una variedad de programas de Sistemas de Información Geográfica (SIG) y de percepción remota.
The Latin American and the Caribbean PLACA 2009 Prizes are awarded
The 5th Award Ceremony of the Latin American and the Caribbean Water Prizes (PLACA in Spanish), took place November 25, 2009 at the Panama Canal Miraflores Visiting Center. The Ceremony brought together representatives from the diplomatic corps, international organizations, governmental agencies and the business sector.
ALAS FUNDATION AND CATHALAC sign Agreement
La Fundacion ALAS y CATHALAC firman Memorando de Entendimiento para apoyar actividades de interés común en materia desarrollo sostenible en Latinoamérica.
La Fundación América Latina en Acción Solidaria (ALAS), representada por Lautaro García Batallán, Director Ejecutivo y el Centro del Agua del Trópico Húmedo para América Latina y el Caribe (CATHALAC), representado por su Director Emilio Sempris, firmaron un Memorando de Entendimiento el 15 de junio de 2007, en el cual formalizan las relaciones interinstitucionales entre ambas instancias para aunar esfuerzos para desarrollar y promover proyectos y actividades para la gestión integral y sostenible de los recursos hídricos y el ambiente, que redunden en beneficio de las comunidades de la región, implementando proyectos en las áreas de salud, recursos hídricos, ambiente, educación, y capacitación.
XXIX Central America Climate Forum concludes (III FCAC 2009)
The Central American region Climate Perspective for the period of December 2009-March 2010 was prepared.
Panama City, Republic of Panama. The XXIX Central America Climate Forum was held on November 18-19, 2009 with the financial support of the European Union in the context of the Environmental Degradation and Vulnerability Reduction Program (PREVDA) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). The Forum was organized by CATHALAC per invitation of Panama’s Electrical Transmission Company (ETESA) with the objective of preparing the Central American region Climate Perspective for the period of December 2009-March 2010.

The Group on Earth Observations (GEO) members from the Americas are organizing the second “GEOSS in the Americas Symposium,” to be held from September 30 through October 3, 2008. GEO, an intergovernmental body comprised of 74 governments, the European Commission and 51 international organizations, work together to build the Global Earth Observation System of Systems (GEOSS) In follow-up to the previous GEOSS of the Americas Symposium held in September 2007 in Brazil, the purpose of this year's Symposium is to increase understanding of GEOSS in the region, raise awareness about existing GEOSS in the Americas activities, strengthen partnerships, and advance a dialogue about opportunities, capabilities, and requirements.
